Save Handsworth Leisure Centre
No Cuts-No Privatisation
PUBLIC MEETING
2pm
Saturday 1st June
Handsworth Leisure Centre Dance Studio, Holly Road, Handsworth, B20 2BY
Birmingham City Council have started a process that could lead to the privatisation of Handsworth Leisure Centre. This would mean the handing over of our publicly owned Leisure Centre, which we own and have paid through our taxes for nearly 30 years, to private companies. The first duty of these companies is to provide profits for their shareholders. We believe that this will result in a loss of services and jobs.
From 5-a-side football to acqua aerobics, from pulse point gym sessions to indoor bowls, the facilities are used by thousands of people every year, including local school children learning to
swim.
At present the Centre, which is open daily from 7.00am to 10.00pm, runs nearly 30 different services, providing a vital community resource.
As concerned residents and users of the Leisure Centre, we want to ensure that it is protected for the future.
We are inviting all Handsworth Leisure Centre users, young and old, and all residents of Handsworth, to discuss the future of our Leisure Centre at a public meeting.
Speakers:
Caroline Johnson, Assistant Branch Secretary, B’ham Unison
Waseem Zaffar, B’ham City Labour Councillor for Lozells and East Handsworth
